Program Note
My initial idea for a percussion quartet was that it needed to involve a crystal glass component in some capacity. As the piece developed, I wanted to explore what different metallic sounds and colors I could create. The inclusion of both the crotales and keyboard percussion that later closes off with a drum set beat altogether encompasses the trip through. That's where the title comes from. Viaje in Spanish means trip, and I hope players will have a grand trip through this work.
